Water Hardness is a term used to express the concentration of predominantly calcium and magnesium ions in water. At sufficiently high concentrations hardness salts can precipitate, forming scale.
Kittiwake Water Hardess Test Kits can determine both calcium and magnesium concentrations, expressing results as mg/l CaCO3. Our range of drop tests, microburette tests and titrator tests allow for increasing accuracy in testing for hardness salts on-site.
Excessive scale deposits block pipework, seize valves and reduce thermostat accuracy. Even thin scale films on boiler metals can significantly reduce heat exchanger capacity.
Hardness salts also reduce the ability of soaps and detergents to foam, lowering cleaning effectiveness and increasing detergent consumption.
Water softeners are used to effectively remove calcium and magnesium ions and prevent scale formation.
