Krystallon has been recognised for its work to make shipping more sustainable by winning the Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment award at the Seatrade Awards 2007.

The company secured the prestigious award for the successful implementation of its innovative sea water scrubber technology. The Krystallon system is the only marine exhaust gas scrubbing unit in commercial operation today. It achieves a massive reduction in ship emissions including 100% sulphur oxide gas removal and 80% particulate removal.

Krystallon, a joint venture between BP Marine and Kittiwake Developments Ltd, is an industry pioneer in this evolving area and with marine environmental legislation tightening, its technology is playing a critical role in helping shipping companies manage their emission levels.

An independent panel of judges voted for Krystallon at the industry awards ceremony held at London’s Guildhall on 21st May. The environmental category was sponsored by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

Krystallon’s managing director Chris Leigh-Jones and BP Marine/Krystallon fuels director Parris Beverly collected the award from the guest of honour, David Dingle, president of the Chamber of Shipping and chairman of the European Cruise Council.

“The award acts as a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved at Krystallon,”

Chris Leigh-Jones said.

“Throughout each and every level of the company, there is a real belief in what we are trying to do.”
