The Unheated Viscometer is used in conjunction with the Kittiwake Oil Test Centre. It is suitable for monitoring both lubricating oil viscosity and hydraulic oil viscosity.
The Unheated Viscometer is included as part of a suite of electronic oil test equipment included in the Oil Test Centre.

Unheated Viscometer & Oil Test Centre FG-K1-100-KW
The Unheated Viscometer is monitors changes in both lubricating oil viscosity or hydraulic oil viscosity .The Unheated Viscometer must be used in conjunction with the Oil Test Centre Console (as shown). Together these provide a suite of electronic oil test equipment designed for use in a very harsh industrial environment, which has been independently correlated against laboratory test procedures and is approved by the Joint Oil Analysis Program.
Viscosity is the prime quality of the oil. It is fundamental to maintaining the integrity of a lube oil film,in preventing metallic contact, scuffing, microwelding and wear of sliding surfaces. Viscosity can increase due to insolubles, oxidation or water contamination and very rapidly decrease with distillate fuel contamination.
The viscosity of engine oil may fall due to distillate fuel oil dilution, by topping up with an incorrect oil grade, or shear or polymer additives. Viscosity may increase due to excessive soot loading (insolubles content) or if the centrifuge or filters are not operating correctly. For all oils, ageing caused by oxidation and thermal degredation may lead to thickening and an increase in viscosity. Viscosity must always be referred to as a standard temperature usually 40 °C or 100 °C. Low viscosity causes wear and siezure.
The Kittiwake Viscometers have been proven to be as accurate as laboratory methods. Click this link to view an independant report from a leading analysis laboratory.
