pH

pH measurement is the amount of alkalinity or acidity in water and water-containing fluids (the hydrogen ion concentration). For example, a pH of 1 indicates a strongly acidic solution, a pH of 7 indicates a neutral solution, and a pH of 14 indicates a strongly alkaline solution.

pH can be used to determine the corrosion-inhibiting characteristic in water-based fluids. Typically, a pH > 8.0 is required to inhibit corrosion of iron and ferrous alloys in water-based fluids. pH level is critial in natural waters as even small fluctuations will affect sensitive chemical and biochemical equilibrium.

pH Measurement

Routine pH measurement of water used in industrial applications such as boliers , cooling systems , wastewater treatment plants, potable water treatment etc is crucial to the general operation of the system and in determining the changing physical and chemical condition of the water.

Corrosion control is effected by elevating pH levels above neutral and in the case of boiler systems, removing feedwater oxygen, usually by elevating feedwater temperature and dosing an oxygen scavenger.

pH Test Meters

pH Test Strips

pH Test strips or papers provide the means of obtaining qualitative or semi-quantitative results in seconds. They are ideal for rapid analysis or for applications that do not require highly accurate results.

pH Photometers

A coloured water sample is placed into a photometer and the test method selected. The device then measures the colour electronically and displays the exact pH concentration on the easy to read LCD display.
