Total Dissolved Solids is a quantitative measure of the dissolved material present in water.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) quantification is derived from a conductivity measurement and can be expressed in a number of ways, often as an equivalent concentration of dissolved sodium chloride (swimming pool industry) or sodium sulphate/ calcium carbonate (industrial water treatment). An increase in TDS is indicative of decreasing water purity. This fact is useful in numerous industrial, sanitation, purification and control applications, as TDS measurement provides useful information as to the behaviour or scaling/deposition/foaming tendancies of water.
TDS Meters
TDS measurement can also be performed using hand-held electronic TDS meters . The Kittiwake range consists of TDS pocket meters, EcoScan handheld units and more sophisticated palm top instruments, where accurate control and monitoring of TDS is required.
