DieselSCOPE - The Diesel Performance Analyser

Designed by marine engineers for marine engineers, the DieselSCOPE Diesel Performance Analyser / Analyzer monitors the combustion process in diesel engines in real time and allows you to tune the diesel engine whilst measuring. Using the DieslSCOPE Diesel Performance Analyser / Analyzer as part of a predictive maintenance program is an extremely useful tool in the fight against costly downtime.

The DieselSCOPE helps to:

  • Plan diesel engine maintenance (saving in parts and labour by changing engine parts based on need, not based on timing intervals)
  • Easily detect major defects
  • Detect worn or damaged engine components
  • Reduce the engine's operating cost
  • Balance cylinder load
  • Optimise injection timing

Balancing the cylinder load helps to extend diesel engine life, increase efficiency, and reduce emissions to assist with environmental compliance. Correct ignition timing also reduces the exhaust gas temperature and rate of excess carbon build-up. Did you know that a single degree of delayed combustion increases exhaust gas temperature by approximately 8 - 10 degrees celcius? Tuning the engine may reduce specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC), because each degree that ignition is retarded increases SFOC by approximately 2%.

DieselSCOPE Diesel Performance Analyser is a handheld unit that is used with a cylinder pressure sensor connected to the indicator valve of the cylinder being measured along with inductive or optical pick-up(s) fitted on the flywheel. Fuel injection pressure sensor or acoustic emission sensor are optional. The analogue signals from the sensors are converted to digital format and stored in the memory for further analysis. Cylinder pressure, crankshaft angle and engine RPM are measured simultaneously.

If the optional fuel channel is included, the fuel injection pressure or acoustic emission generated by the injection process is also measured as a function of the crankshaft angle.

The DieselSCOPE System identifies the crankshaft position with an accuracy of up to 0.1 degrees and measures the cylinder pressure up to 250 bars with a resolution of 0.1 bar. A PC software package "DieseSCOPE Marine Diesel Performance Anlayser File Viewer" and a USB computer cable are supplied as part of the system. The "DieselSCOPE Diesel Performance Analyser File Viewer" software package can be used to analyse the combustion process, store the measurements in data files, print diagrams or complete reports, and send data files to the office. A variety of diagrams, bar plots and tables can be displayed in order to present the measurements and the manually entered data in a user-friendly way and to facilitate the evaluation of the engine condition. The simultaneous display of current and previously taken reference data allows easy identification of worn or defective parts or incorrect adjustment.
