It is common knowledge that free and emulsified water causes problems in your machinery.  Less well known is that water can increase the oxidation rate of the lubricant oil by more than ten times, which is why water-screening is such an integral part of oil analysis. For example water could reduce the potential service life of bearings by 75% before the oil even begins to look cloudy. Even in its dissolved state the water is at work, attacking the base stock, the additive package and the machine. Water can also carry organisms that could disable your critical hydraulic systems, which is why moisture in oil testing - sometimes referred to as Relative Humidity - is a crucial part of any maintenance routine.
